The First one is always the hardest.....

Hmmm, how to start this first post which either will inspire me to keep on writing more or could drive me away from writing other posts? Ohh well let start by introducing myself.

My name is Sebastian and I am the 9 to 5 hippie. Why 9 to 5? Well, as much as I am a free spirited soul I am also a working man, one more of the bunch but that extra ace under my sleeve. Some time ago a good friend of mine called Carlos described me in a way I have never seen myself in 38 years. He said, "All your life you've done whatever you have always wanted". I think this innocent comment triggered the idea of starting this blog.

Now, don't we all do things that we wanted to? When you're hungry you eat what you've been craving, when you feel like going to see a movie, you choose the movie you want to enjoy. Correct! But I think his logic goes further than that. I like to believe it describes me as a person who always has followed his gut feeling no matter what the consequences were, good or bad there was always a lesson to be learned that would make me a better person and leave me with a story to tell. My brother Juan also takes takes pleasure on saying "That's something that would only happen to you" every time I tell him about one of my unexpected situations or encounters when I have reacted the way I felt like and not the way most people would have had. I kinda enjoy the "fame" when he tells the stories....haha

So following that little introduction, I've been a lawyer, a sound engineer, a composer, a musician, I've learned guitar, then bass, I've played with some bands, recorded with some others, composed music for projects, been interviewed by local newspapers, been a bicycle courier during fall-winter, worked at a record store, at a music store, at the SPCA, at an airport, at a company that processes and collects royalties for mechanical rights. Backpacked to several countries and I have
cycled across the second largest country in the world Canada (which I've been calling home for the past 15 years) from coast to coast and well now I can attempt to call myself a.....Blogger.

So, this is the story of a guy who was born in Venezuela but moved to Canada in 2001, that wants to see life in a different way, a more relaxed and more spiritual way than what I feel society pushes people to live everyday. So I'll be attempting to write anecdotes, past and present, stories, old and new, and situations based on my point of view. Sometimes it will sound like a rant, some others like a Victory. Some will be funny and some others not so much. You'll have to excuse me but this is my first try at blogging and sharing personal experiences other than social media like Facebook. I would like to receive some feedback and comments, all of them will be appreciated, good or bad. Like I said before.....Life is a learning curve!

Parallel to this I am working on writing a book (my first one) about my adventures across Canada so this should be a good way to inspire me and a good stepping stone into the world of writing. I can't promise I'll be constant, or that I'll write every day. It will be unannounced, when the mood strikes, when I have something to share with you, but I CAN promise I'll do it the best way I can and put 100% passion on each post.

So we now have a deal ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the 9 to 5 Hippie! Hope you read it, like it, follow it and give me some tips along the way. This journey has just begun!
